11/17/21 7th & 8th gr. Judges

7th/8th gr. Axis Guide Sheet: Judges – I don’t know what Judges are at all.                           11/17/21

Hi Guides & families!  Here is this week's content.

Activity ideas are on the back. Remember Highs & Lows & prayers!

v  LargeGroup (6:30)

-          Topic intro

o   Judges – Despite all that God had done for His people including giving them commandments to live by, they continually strayed & did wrong (sound like anyone you know?). So God began raising up leaders to help them sort out problems & make wise decisions. Some judges were good at pointing people back to right ways of living & some were, well, not so good.

o   Think about this: If you could ask only one person for advice in life, who would it be & why?

Discussion starters:

-          What stuck out to you? What raised questions for you?

-          Despite knowing between right & wrong, why do you think we keep doing wrong at times?

-          Who are some of the leaders in your life? How did you get them? What do you like/dislike about them?

-          Share about a time someone steered you back on track after you had gotten out of line.

-          What is your reaction when people in positions of power or leadership do wrong? Can you do anything to make a difference?

How about when the “majority” is misbehaving? Do you go with the flow or follow the rules?

Bible talk:

-          Have a volunteer read Judges 6:19-24.

o   Gideon built an altar after seeing a clear sign of God’s presence. What would you do if you saw God so clearly you had no choice but to believe it was God?

o   The story goes on to tell us that even after this encounter with God, Gideon was afraid to follow God’s commands because of what other people might think of him (vs 27). What does this tell you about the leaders God chooses?

-          Now move to Judges 21:25 & have someone else read.

o   What stands out to you?

o   What does “all people did what was right in their own eyes” mean to you? Is this necessarily a bad thing?

o   Where is God in this verse?

Activity ideas:

You Rule! – (Guides-this is an activity that requires honesty & respect. Be ready to jump in with affirmations & compliments as needed. Encourage the group to be serious.)

Just like different tools are made for different purposes, we each have different gifts/strengths to use in life. Go around your group & for each person, have everyone name a gift or skill they see in the person. How might these gifts/skills be used to help someone else?

Who’s to Say?

"Which of these roles would be most useful in running a nation? Discuss your top choice."

Caution: God at Work

God provides us with all kinds of tools for creating a life of faith. What tools have helped you in your faith?

 - Places you feel/have felt close to God?

- People who help you stick with God?

- Things you red/have read that help you think about God?
