2/9/22 6gr Families: Apostle's Creed

Apostles Creed – We Say This All of the Time but Do I Really Believe It?

Key Verses & Takeaways

Psalm 8:9, John 14:26, Acts 2:2

- The same God who is the source of creation, is the God at work in our lives today, providing us with our needs.

- Jesus’ life, death, & resurrection happened, & it happened for me, so that I am free to live to serve others.

- The Holy Spirit is hard to understand but we are assured through Jesus’ promise that it is at work in us, enabling & sustaining our faith throughout our life in ways we can & sometimes can’t see.

Discussion questions:

-Do you have any routines? Things that you do daily or weekly, that you feel make you, you? How does it feel when you skip these things?

-What is something that you just accept works without really knowing exactly how it does?

-In the Creed, God is depicted as Father. Is there anything wrong with saying Mother? How is God like a mom?

-How are knowledge & trust related? Do you need one to have the other?

-What are some books or movies you’ve read or seen that include a hidden spirit or force that’s at work behind the main action? How does that hidden presence influence the events in the story?

-Can we ever really know for sure what the Holy Spirit is? Does it matter if we can’t?

-How do you help pass on your faith to others? What things do you do because of your faith or beliefs?

-What parts of the Creed are easiest for you to understand? The hardest? How can you continue to learn to live these things out?

Further readings to check out:

John 14:25-29

- What things can Jesus give us that the world can’t?

- Is there anything troubling your heart right now? Where do you need Jesus’ promise of peace in your life?

Acts 1:8.

Jesus spoke these words to the disciples before leaving them; he was equipping them to continue his work on earth. Having read about the Holy Spirit’s arrival in Jerusalem, what do you think Jesus wanted the disciples to do next? How have you been equipped to carry on this work now?

Activity Ideas:

Apostle’s Creed version 2022 – Do you think the creed needs some updating? Begin working on a modern version of it together as a group. How would you convey your shared beliefs about God & Jesus in your own words?

Belief in Action – Come up with a way to act out the Apostles’ Creed as you say it. Take a video of it & then put your beliefs out there & post it!

Elemental – The elements (wind, water, fire, etc.) are often used as analogies of the Holy Spirit. Look up some videos of these forces in action. What might they show us about the work of the Holy Spirit? What are their strengths? Their shortcomings? What else might you use to illustrate or describe the Holy Spirit?
